Have you ever experienced that annoying feeling of exhaustiveness on a Monday morning even though you had a restful weekend?

Like when you wake up feeling like crap experiencing symptoms like achy muscles and joints, headache, fatigue, migraine, or irritable bowels when you should be feeling refreshed and energized. I mean, you just had a long and fun-filled weekend where you did nothing but rest.

These symptoms may manifest in some people in the form of skin problems such as acne, rashes, and dull appearance of the skin that makes you feel like a daily skincare regime is a waste of precious time. If you are experiencing all or some of these symptoms, a detox could be what your body needs.

Detoxification is the term used to describe the process by which the body neutralizes or eliminates harmful substances (toxins) through the liver, kidneys, intestines, lungs as well as skin. This process happens naturally by God’s designs. However, due to other environmental conditions we regularly encounter, like industrial pollution, cleaning products, and others, the speed at which the body rids itself of toxins is far less than the rate at which it is accumulated. Hence, the need to enhance the body’s natural detoxification processes.

Note that this process doesn’t have to be ambiguous, by simply focusing on eating clean food and choosing a healthy lifestyle will do the trick.

There are many ways to achieve the above, but let’s keep it simple:

1. Make garlic your friend — garlic helps to increase the excretion of heavy metals such as lead and cadmium from the body. Heavy metals get into the body majorly through food products contaminated by the metals (almost all food has a certain percentage of heavy metals in them). Garlic also boosts the production of glutathione in the body, an antioxidant involved in natural detoxification.

2. Reduce your exposure to synthetic cleaning products, perfumes, and deodorants. Switch to natural ones like baking soda and essential oils

3. Embrace ginger — they help to fight germs, illness, and inflammation, thereby promoting a healthy skin appearance.

4. Consume less salt

5. Discard sugar — honey is a healthier alternative sweetener that is also a good antioxidant.

6. Drink lots of water — it helps to flush out toxins in the body

7. Rest your organs by fasting — this could be as simple as skipping a meal to allow your organs to take a break from constantly overworking.

Simple detox recipe

The detox drink recipe below could be taken every day, preferably in the morning for anybody looking to burn some fat. It is advised to be limited to twice a week if weight loss is not the target.

Recipe

1. one (1) big sized ginger root

2. four (4) cloves of garlic

3. half (1/2) lemon (can be increased to a full lemon if weight loss is the target)

4. one (1) liter of warm water

5. two (2) tablespoons of honey (optional)

Wash, peel, and slice the ginger and garlic into small bits. Keep them in a jug filled with warm water and squeeze in the lemon.

Dosage

Drink at least a glass before your breakfast.

Drink the rest throughout the day cold (or lukewarm if preferred).

Always squeeze in lemon right before drinking to get the most health benefits out of it (optional).

Disclaimer

This is not intended to be a condemnation of modern science or its terms of practice; alternatively, it is a means of increasing self-therapy and the use of alternative medicines to cure people using natural herbs and roots.
